On a recent day off, me and a couple of friends decided to spend the day in Hakone. We didn’t really have any big agenda except my friends really wanted to go to Owakudani and we all wanted to finish the day at a hot spring..We first took the train from Tokyo to Odawara. From there, we jumped on the Odakyu line for a few stops and then switched to the Hakone-Tozan line at Hakone-Yumoto. If you’ve never been on this train, it’s definitely worth doing it once: it’s an old switchback train that climbs through the trees and you are completely surrounded by greenery. During the summer, when the hydrangeas are in full bloom, it is quite beautiful. Later on we made it to Owakudani, where we enjoyed “black eggs”. According to the local legend, one egg can extend one’s life for 7 years. As far as I can tell, these eggs aren’t that different from regular boiled eggs, though the egg shells are black. But because they are boiled in hot spring water, the yolk seems to have a slightly different flavor. We then headed back down to Hakone Yumoto via bus and went to a hot spring before heading back home. All in all a great day trip out of the city.銀座校インストラクター マーチン
