Last Monday was a national holiday, and for the first time in two months, my wife and I finally had a whole day off together. So, what better way to spend it than celebrating my mother-in-law’s 58th birtday? Actually, it turned out to be a fantastic day! My in-laws love onsen, I think they have been to almost all hot springs in Touhoku, or at least in Miyagi. So of course my mother-in-law wanted to spend her birthday at an onsen resort. More specifically, Sukawa Onsen in the Kurikoma mountains. I recommend everyone who wants to go there to take the Akita-side route up, and the Iwate-side down. The traffic is not as heavy on the west side. Anyways, our timing was perfect! The weather was clear and a bit chilly, and all the trees were glowing yellow, orange and red in the sunshine. It was so beautiful, I felt like I was back home in the Swedish mountains. And the view from the outdoor bath was amazing! It was a good day. If you want to go you’d better hurry up though, or the leaves will all be brown when you get there! 仙台インストラクター Axel
